Campaign UK’s Independent Agency of the Year

Winning Independent Media Agency of the Year during our 20th birthday year marks a truly special milestone in Medialab’s journey. To not only win but also be the only independent agency shortlisted in the Media Agency of the Year category, alongside global network giants, is something we’re immensely proud of.

This is down to never compromising on our values, remaining true to our founder-led, independent spirit: committed to helping people flourish, doing the right thing, and digging deeper to understand better. For Tej, our HR Advisor, the win is a testament to our “strong culture of learning – whether it’s through our mentoring (both internal or through external partners), one of our frequent lunch & learn sessions, or the amazing employee-led communities driving our inclusivity work. You genuinely feel like you’re growing every day, not just professionally but personally too”. Whilst our Account Director, Maddy adds, “knowing it’s not just about numbers or accolades—it’s about the relationships we’ve built and the values we’ve held onto. Being part of Medialab means showing up for each other, for our clients, and for the work that really moves the needle”.

Alex Kirk, Medialab’s Managing Director and Co-Founder concludes, “this recognition is a powerful affirmation of everything we’ve built over the past two decades— and to receive it the year we celebrate turning 20, makes it all the more meaningful. It shows what’s possible when you stay true to your values, back your people, and lead with purpose. This one’s for every Medialabber, and for our brilliant clients and media partners who make the journey possible. Here’s to the next chapter—onwards and upwards!”

On the win, as published in Campaign UK.

Since its founding in 2005, Medialab has been guided by the leadership of Marcus Orme (CEO), Alex Kirk (Managing Director), and Ben Ennis (COO). Central to the agency’s operations is Apollo, a cutting-edge marketing intelligence platform that helps clients gain clarity and control over complex, multi-channel data—enabling real-time insights and smarter media planning.

Over time, Medialab has built a reputation for crafting standout campaigns, such as the double-gold-winning work for Laithwaites at the IPA Effectiveness Awards and the acclaimed “Week in Blackpool” campaign for Alzheimer’s Society. The agency has also earned industry recognition, including a Silver in Campaign’s Independent Media Agency of the Year in 2023 and a shortlist spot for Media Week’s Agency of the Year—standing out as the only independent media agency on the list.

The agency champions a hybrid working model that balances flexibility with meaningful face time. Employees are typically in the office at least two days a week, with additional in-person time encouraged for early career professionals. Medialab also supports remote work with a financial contribution to help team members create effective home workspaces.

In 2024, the agency made a powerful statement on inclusion and authenticity when CEO Marcus Orme shared his personal story about living with dyslexia. It was a moment that reinforced Medialab’s belief in the strength of diverse perspectives and its commitment to a culture where people can truly be themselves. This certainly shone through to our judges, who remarked: “I get a good feeling for ethics and impact work rather than lip service.”
