We’re so excited to have welcomed 13 new Bootcampers to the Medialab team recently, who have joined as part of the fifth intake of our thorough 6-week Media training scheme. Our Bootcamp scheme is designed for those eager to dive into the media industry, with no qualifications required to apply. From campaign planning and activation to media buying, as well as working towards first-class industry qualifications, by the end of their training the Bootcampers will be Account Executives, working in our Client Planning, TV Buying, and Offline specialist teams. With the support of appointed mentors and Bootcamp Buddies (existing Medialab team members who are there to fill Bootcampers in on any ‘need to knows’ and tips that they found useful/ would have found useful in their first few weeks in the office), they will be equipped with the skills to thrive in their careers at Medialab.
Here’s what their first week at Medialab looked like:
Malachy: The Bootcamp interview process involved interactive team bonding tasks, which made me feel a part of the team from the start and helped to ease any initial nerves during the first week. We kicked off with setups and introductions to our line managers and colleagues, immersing ourselves in the day to day tasks of the client planning teams at Medialab.
Brogan: It felt different from any other company I’ve worked for. The family-like atmosphere and spirit made me feel welcomed and an integral part of the team from the first day.
Hollie: It was clear that we were all really excited to get started from day one! The week began with introductions to our team leaders and buddies, which really helped to settle those first-week nerves. We were invited to some really interesting sessions about Medialab throughout the first week (I really liked the session about how Medialab fits into the Media industry). It was great to learn so much about the company and it made me feel so reassured about my future here.
Adam: Despite the nerves, which almost felt like starting the first day at school, I was eager to learn about the new environment and the upcoming challenges. The first day was all about familiarisation with the team and setting up essential systems like Outlook, and our IPA Effectiveness training portal.
MID-WEEK
Issy: As the week progressed, I found myself getting more involved with my team by picking up administrative tasks. Initially daunting, the systems became more manageable thanks to the supportive teaching from my team!
Marley: The week unfolded with more introductions and deeper dives into my new role. I began shadowing colleagues and tackling my first tasks. My mid-week highlight was Daisy’s Lunch and Learn Lab, with brilliant tips on best use of Outlook.
Betsy-Jo: By mid-week, lunches with fellow Bootcampers had become a part of my daily routine. We quickly formed a bond and tried to suss out our favourite lunchtime spots around the office.
Iyanna: Mid-week, I felt welcomed as a team member in the office and a genuine part of the Medialab family, thanks to the various training sessions and the support from my line manager and team – I was also really enjoying getting stuck into the IPA Effectiveness Certificate training.
END OF THE WEEK
Emilia: The week flew by, filled with a continuous flow of new information. I’m already eager for the next week, particularly the introductions to media owners and I’m also looking forward to more interactions with my team and starting on live projects.
Rachel: By the end of the week, I felt I had developed a comfortable relationship with my line manager, who gave me background information on clients and projects. The team social on Thursday evening was a fantastic way to engage with my team and meet everyone, including the Board, in a more relaxed setting.
Niamh: The week ended with our first MediaTED, where we saw some brilliant recent work that Medialab had carried out with Save the Children and Metro, including a cover-wrap ad that called on MPs to vote for a ceasefire in Gaza. Following that, a coffee catch-up and a social event after work helped to develop my relationship with the team even further. There’s a company-wide social after work next week to introduce us all to the wider team, which I can’t wait for!
