Our Account Executive, Holly

Holly joined Medialab a few weeks ago, and has joined the one of our client teams as an Account Executive. Having moved down from Leeds to London to take on the role, Holly walks us through a day in her life at Medialab…

6am

Three or four days a week, my housemates and I will go to the gym together, get a coffee and set ourselves up for the day. I also like to log on a bit earlier and focus on the day ahead of our team call.

9am

My daily team meeting is really fun, we have a good bit of banter in the morning, and everyone is always on good form. In this meeting, on Fridays, we’ll each go through something that has gone well that week and something that has been a challenge. I’ve only just joined Medialab, and although the last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind, it’s been great, and these daily sessions really helped me get a broader picture of all the different projects going on.

9.45am

Something that I have really appreciated since starting at Medialab, is being setup to have induction sessions with someone from each of the different teams and departments. So far, I’ve had sessions with Maddy from the Offline team, Sam from Marketing, and the founders, Marcus, Alex and Ben. Those conversations confirmed all the things that I thought about the Medialab culture from the interview process. It’s been so welcoming.

Today I spoke with Elle & Rob, 2 of our digital specialists. They wanted to understand what skills I was keen to learn… So I’ve now got a weekly hour long session with Rob, who is going to help me develop my PPC capabilities! He mentioned we’ll start our first session walking me through how to setup a PPC campaign for one of our clients.

11.30am

In order to get up to speed, I’ve been shadowing client team calls. I’ll often come out of those meetings with thousands of questions, which I share with the team. I’ve tried to be a sponge for these first few weeks, and by the end of the second week, I was starting to set things up on Facebook – learning on the job is the best way for me, and I’ve enjoyed putting my training into practice.

Lunch

Normally I’ll power on straight through to lunch, and then go out for a walk to get some time away from the screen. We are doing a mixture of being in and out of the office which, as a new starter, is great. Last Wednesday I went in to meet the team, see the office, and go out for lunch together, whereas today I’m working from home.

2pm

Something that I have been taught, by one of our amazing Senior Account Executives, Phoebe, is how to do creative updates on Facebook. I’ve started working on that for a range of clients; for example, I recently updated the campaign with new celebrity creatives, and it will be really interesting to see how they perform.

4pm

It’s only week three, but there is loads to get into. Today there’s a talk from Senior Strategist at agency AMB BBDO, Mike Alhadeff, who has come in to speak to us about how we should be considering disability in our media planning strategies, and what we can be doing to create a more inclusive workplace for people with disabilities. Mike shared his story with us which was inspiring and eye opening, it’s been amazing having access to different talks within office hours.

5pm

Our team do a 5 at 5 at the end of the day and chatting about things that aren’t related to work, which will inevitably lead to some giggles and getting to know more about the team whilst working from home.

6pm

I live just by the river in Putney so, weather dependent, I go for a walk with my housemates, and then we’ll come back and cook dinner together, and most likely watch Ru Paul’s AllStars.

If you weren’t at Medialab, what would you be doing?

I’d probably be the yachty captain (have you seen Below Deck on Netflix?)
