Medialab are proud to be involved in the development of the partnership between Alzheimer’s Research UK and Jay Flynn’s staggeringly successful ‘The Virtual Pub Quiz’ starting this evening, Thursday 14th May, in order to raise awareness and boost funds and support for dementia research.
The Virtual Pub Quiz is a weekly initiative created and compered by Jay, which has since raised over £165,000 for NHS Charities Together.
Also joining the partnership is Stephen Fry, who is making a guest-host appearance and has recorded two hosting rounds for the quiz in support of Alzheimer’s Research UK. He said, “The partnership between Alzheimer’s Research UK and The Virtual Pub Quiz feels so perfect. The quiz is keeping people connected, while the money raised will support research that will ultimately keep us connected to our loved ones for longer.”
This is an especially difficult time for charities and their fundraising efforts, with Alzheimer’s Research expecting a drop in support for its work by as much as 45% as a result of COVID-19. So, quizzers are being asked to donate to the charity, with the added incentive of wealth management and employee benefits company Mattioli Woods agreeing to match-fun the first £15,000 of donations.
Ian Wilson, Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: “We are so grateful to Jay and his community for backing the work of the charity and to our amazing supporter Stephen Fry for guest hosting some of the quiz rounds for us.
“These really are difficult times for charities the world over, including Alzheimer’s Research UK. Right now, critical progress in dementia research is at stake, but through this partnership we can ensure our scientists will be able to continue their vitally important search for life-changing treatments.”
The quiz starts at 8.15pm (BST) after the clap for carers, with the livestream beginning from 7.50pm.
