Medialab achieve Gold Award in Mind’s Workplace Wellbeing Index

Medialab are proud to be recognised by Mental Health Charity, Mind, in achieving their highest accolade of ‘Gold Standard – Achieving Excellence’ within their Workplace Wellbeing Index. Following their inaugural submission, the accreditation acknowledges that Medialab have ‘successfully embedded mental health into its policies and practices, utilizing a variety of approaches and demonstrating a long term, in depth commitment to staff mental health’.

Mind’s Workplace Wellbeing Index is a benchmark of best policy and practice, celebrating the good work employers are doing to promote and support positive mental health, and providing key recommendations on the specific areas where there is room to improve.

Medialab placed 10th overall, amongst the organisations who were recognised, and most notably, when ranked based purely on staff feedback, Medialab came 3rd, which is testament to their people first culture.

Their staff feedback revealed;

  • 100% of employees feel the organisation encourages openness and discussion about mental health
  • 98% feel that Medialab runs initiatives to raise awareness of mental health
  • 82% feel confident their manager would be able to spot the signs that someone is struggling with a mental health problem
  • 92% of those who experienced poor mental health while working at Medialab felt confident they would be supported.

Chief Executive Officer, Marcus Orme, commented, “The priority, always, at Medialab, is the wellbeing of our people. We want Medialab to be place that its employees feel comfortable and happy coming into work to. A place where they feel looked after, listened to and cared for. A place where they can bring their whole selves to work, and really flourish in what they do. That’s why this recognition means so much to me and the company, because it means our efforts are resonating, which is clear in the incredible employee feedback.

To see that 100% of the company feel that we encourage discussion about mental health makes me proud of our Together We Stand sessions, where we talk about these kinds of subjects in an open forum. Equally, we recognise the importance of training in this area, and all our line managers have been through mental health awareness training, which speaks to the 82% of the organisation that feel confident in their manager being able to spot any struggles they might be going through with their mental health.

But it’s not something that we take for granted, and we are fully aware that our commitment to supporting and improving our employee’s wellbeing will never end. We never stop learning, and this vital report also gives us insights and direction from the experts at Mind about how we can be better.

Importantly, this Gold Award is the result of a group effort, with everyone at Medialab contributing. We have all put in the hours of training to help increase our awareness of mental health, and we have all contributed to creating a culture that feels open and supportive, where people feel comfortable in having real conversations about mental health.”
